Women is not only facing the challenges from the outer world.she is struggling within fighting with herself.
You must be surprised that who is ‘Woman insider’.
None other than HORMONES.
She always has to mask her own behaviour due to these hormonal actions.
When she wants to be happy, hormones may make her to be sad and depressed . When she wants to be calm , these might make her to loose her temperament. She cannot be herself due to these hormonal changes. As these hormones keeps changing in all the phases of her life and phases of her cycle.
From puberty through post menopause and during the different phases of menstrual cycle.
Women experiences a continuous rhythm of hormonal fluctuations that affect brain chemistry and circuitry. Influencing on emotions moods and behaviour of a women .
Unfortunately this has often been an attempt to consign women to a biologically determined place of inferior mental functioning.
To brief about physiology of hormones- Gonadal hormones- oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone are produced by the gonads – the ovaries and testes , in response to other precursor hormones found in the pituitary gland and other brain areas.
During puberty period, emphasis on pre menstrual syndrome and it’s effects on a women’s mood seems blown out of proportion especially in light of the fact that a woman’s life a continuum of hormonal upheaval that affect her moods with major hormonal change, many girls experience various mood swings and other changes in mental health.
Some women who take certain types of birth control pills experience depressive symptoms with irritability, loss of enjoyment and even suicidal thoughts.
Hormonally speaking , there is no doubt that pregnancy is one of the most volatile times in a women’s life. The combination of hormonal changes and imminent lifestyle changes wreaks havoc on most women’s moods and emotions.
Postnatal depression and psychosis are key mental illnesses related to child birth and have a major hormonal component to the onset and course of illness. This is a thought to be triggered by the sudden rapid drop in the high levels of pregnancy hormones shortly after birth. In fact some women never seem to recover the same emotional stability that they had prior to having a child.
During the transition to menopause , a peri menopausal phase women experience major hormonal shift. At this time they are 14 times more likely than usual to experience depression. It affects women differently than other types of depression causing anger, irritability ,poor concentration , memory difficulties, low self esteem, poor sleep and weight gain.
So totally in her life she can’t be that women of her own .Her emotional health is inextricably linked to hormones.
