MINDFUL EATING

Is it required to eat mindfully?

First of all what you mean by mindful eating?

Mindful eating means simply eating or drinking while being aware of each bite or sip.

Is there any difference in normal eating and mindful eating?

Absolutely, there is a lot of difference.

Most of us are having food looking at TV , holding mobile in one hand and having food from another hand. Many a times we may be in hurry to finish our food as our mind is filled with multiple thoughts and tasks.

Mindful eating begins with our choice of what to eat or drink. We have to choose food or drink that are good for our health.

It’s an occasion to sit , to eat and enjoy every morsel of our food.

When we put a hunk of food into our mouth, we put only a bit of bread, not our business or projects , not our worries or sorrows. It’s not healthy to chew our either of these or such things. Just have to chew the slice of bread and enjoy chewing it.

A few milliseconds are enough for us to recognize the morsel of food , it is an ambassador from the nature, could see nature elements ( 5 Elements- earth, sky, fire, water, air) just coming to heal and nourish our body.

Whenever we eat with full awareness and engaging all our senses on food we intake, we do not only feed our bodies and safeguard our physical health but also nurture our feelings, our mind and consciousness.

Although there is an act to pick up a piece of bread , putting it in the mouth and chewing, we do it naturally without making any cerebral effort.

But if we practice eating mindfully, it boosts our digestion. 40% of digestion starts with brain known as Cephalic Digestion.

When we see the food, touch and smell it , sense organs triggers the brain , from the brain it is connected to parasympathetic nerve of gut, that helps in proper digestion.

How to practice eating mindfully?

* Honor the food: start the meal with whatever traditional grace or prayer you prefer to use to express your gratitude.

* Engage all Six Senses: The first senses starts with seeing and touching the food, the then by smelling the aroma of the food. Always try to eat from the hand.

* Savor small bites and chew thoroughly.

* Eat slowly to avoid overeating.

Mindful eating keeps your each cells of your body health, improves digestion and keeps you slim and fit.
