Overcoming scar endometriosis: a story of healing through ayurvedic approach.

A patient named Jaya once came to me for her pain and discomfort in the area of her C-section scar.

Jaya had been experiencing severe pain and swelling in the area of her C-section scar for several months, otherwise she is an healthy women with no significant medical history, her surgical history included an uncomplicated caesarean section 6 years back.

She had no idea that endometriosis could grow outside of her uterus, let alone inside her scar from a previous surgery. Its like a horror movie come to life. She thought it was just a wired pimple that wouldn’t go away. she never imagined it could be Scar endometriosis.

Scar endometriosis is a rare condition where tissues similar to the lining of the uterus grows in places where it shouldn’t. It typically occurs in women who have had C-sections, hysterectomy, or other types of surgeries on their uterus or ovaries, and its difficult to diagnose. Usually the symptoms includes pain, swelling, and inflammation in the affected area at the time of menstruation. , which can be mistaken for a surgical wound that hasn’t fully healed. Scar endometriosis may also cause abnormal bleeding or discharge from the surgical site in some patients.

Upon careful examination revealed an approximately 3 cm wide, tender, strict, and immobile right subcutaneous mass beneath the lower segment of cesarean scar.

She described the pain on the caesarean section scar which increases during the period of menstruation and then noticed swelling over the caesarean section scar.

The main symptoms of CSE (Caesarean Scar Endometriosis) included a palpable mass, under or away from the scar, with cyclic pain and swelling during menstruation CSE is an uncommon iatrogenic disease caused by endometrium implantation in the incision during cesarean delivery Endometriosis implants developing in the subcutaneous tissue of surgical scar occurs most frequently after gynecological and obstetrical procedures, including caesarean sections, hysterectomies, cystectomies , tube ligations and amniocenteses or appendectomy.

If left untreated, scar endometriosis can lead to chronic pain and discomfort and negatively impact the quality of life.

I explained that this condition was quite rare, very treatable by ayurvedic treatments.

For Jaya, I had put her on Ayurveda diet which emphasizes anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric and ginger. I also advised her to perform pranayama, and yoga which helps in calming the mind, relieving stress and balancing hormones.

Additionally, she has put on Ashwagandha Choorna and Shatavari Gritham which helped promote overall wellbeing and support the reproductive system.

Specific treatment what I planned for this condition is the local application of residue of Asava/Arista + Shatavari Taila ( Or some other Medicated oil ) + Shunti Choorna & few herbal drugs are added to heat and applied on the Scar site during Menstruation to reduce the swelling, inflammation and pain at that site.

This treatment continued for 6 months, within a couple of months Jaya began to feel better, her quality of life improved and the scar seemed normal without swelling. She was finally able to move comfortably without any pain or embarrassment. She continued to thrive and lead a life that was healthy, happy and pain-free.

Jaya was amazed by the effectiveness of Ayurveda in treating scar endometriosis.

I was glad to see my patient relieved of her symptoms and enjoying improved health. I advised her to continue with the Ayurvedic remedies and habits to prevent any recurrence of the condition.
