Today, that is April 19th is considered as ‘World Liver Day’, so will make an effort to know the significance of Liver. How Liver will take care of our body and in turn how we should take care of our Liver naturally.
Before that its important to know how during embryonic stage this organ has developed. There is an interlink between blood and Liver.
Ayurveda narrates that Rakta dhatu ie, blood tissue has formed Liver.
Even conventional anatomy states that an abundant quantity of blood is responsible for the formation of sinusoids of the Liver. This huge quantity of blood comes from broken vitelline and umbilical vein in the septum transversum. On the other hand the raw material for the formation of blood cells and Liver (septum transversum) is the same being mesenchymal cells from the mesoderm.
Liver – it’s one among a vital visceral organ,it’s called engine of the body, it has many important roles to play in digesting metabolizing and manufacturing essential compounds for keeping the body healthy.Scan and identify toxins in the plasma and store them so they don’t enter the blood. This maintains the purity of blood by keeping impurities away from mixing with it.
The liver produces and secrets bile, having it to break down and digest fatty acids. It produces blood clotting factors and at the same time creates protective elements that keep blood clots from blocking the circulatory system. It converts sugar into glycogen and energy. It synthesis protein and cholesterol.Apart from storing valuable trace elements like Iron, copper and vitamin A,D &B12.
Liver is situated in middle zone of our body ie, pitta sthana. Pitta based problems of skin inflammation can be direct result of liver imbalance.
Also,I would like to describe Ayurveda perceptive of Liver. “Yakrut” is the word we called in Sanskrit for Liver.
The main function of yakrut is to offer red colour to Rasa dhatu ( plasma) ie Ranjana of Rasa dhatu. Haemoptosis is carried out by yakrut only in intrauterine life. However after birth , this is carried out by Red bone marrow.
Toxins stored in liver can lead to allergic conditions, hypercholestermia, hyperglycemia, constipation, digestive problems or fatigue. If imbalance continues for longer duration serious diseases of the liver includes hepatitis, cirrhosis, jaundice and cancer may develop.
Natural balancing of Liver through diet, lifestyle, therapies and medicines.
● Eat organic freshly cooked foods.
●Avoid junks, preservative and chemical processed food.
● Avoid drinking alcohol
● Stop smoking
● Avoid exposing to pollutants and chemicals.
The best way to prevent liver imbalance is to keep pitta dosha in balance.
Eat pitta pacifying diet in summer
Aim for three good meals a day. Eating at consistent times from one day to the next also helps to balance an overactive digestive fire.
Favour sweet, bitter and astringent tastes which are cooling and refreshing- such as fresh fruits and vegetables, rice, quinoa, spelt, barley, oats, milk, butter, ghee, foods rich in the bitter tastes include green, leafy vegetables, rhubarb and rocket
Raw foods tend to be naturally cooling, and pitta tends to be able to handle them better than the other doshas, so mixing in an assortment of raw fruits and vegetables will generally be supportive—especially in the warmer months. Try not to mix raw and cooked foods in the same meal
Avoid hot and spicy foods such as those cooked with chillies, raw onion, raw garlic, mustard and cayenne.
Minimise the sour taste, for example, foods such as cheese, yoghurt and tomatoes are considered especially sour
Minimise your use of salt and salty foods such as salted nuts and crisps
The best oils for Pitta are olive, sunflower and coconut oil, as well as ghee or unsalted butter. Avoid fried and greasy foods and low-quality oils
Favour the milder spices such as fresh ginger, fennel coriander, Turmeric and small amounts of black pepper. Some key cooling and calming herbs you can use to help balance your strong digestion are coriander, and mint. You can use these herbs liberally in your cooking and as cooling garnishes
Favour all the sweet fruits but avoid the sour tasting ones such as oranges, grapefruits and pineapples. Lemon and lime are fine in moderation
A healthy liver is a healthy body…Take care of your Liver..
