One habit that brings me joy is practicing self-care rituals, specifically Abhyanga, which is the practice of self-massage with oil. This daily ritual not only helps nourish and moisturize the skin but also promotes relaxation and overall well-being.
Before taking a shower or bath, I heat up some organic oil, such as sesame or coconut oil, and massage it onto my body. I start with the scalp, gently rubbing the oil onto my head in circular motions. Then, I work my way down, massaging the oil onto my face, neck, shoulders, arms, chest, belly, back, legs, and feet.
This self-massage not only helps improve blood circulation but also stimulates the lymphatic system, which helps detoxify the body. As I massage the oil, I feel the tension melting away, and it provides a sense of grounding and relaxation. It becomes a moment of mindfulness where I am fully present in the sensations of touch and the nourishing oil on my skin.
After letting the oil sit on my body for a few minutes, I take a warm shower or bath, allowing the warm water to further penetrate and absorb the oil into my skin. Throughout this process, I focus on being present, appreciating the nourishing and loving care I am providing to my body.
Following this practice consistently brings me joy and a sense of self-love and self-connection. It helps me feel more aligned with my body, releases tension, and boosts my overall mood and energy. This simple habit not only enhances my physical well-being but also nurtures my emotional and spiritual well-being, bringing me a deep sense of joy and contentment.
